‘Fight for Flight’
During our 2023 Autumn count, Heather Fortune volunteered with us. "Fight for Flight" is the title of her year-long solo expedition, contributing to ornithological research and conservation across Europe and Asia.
From ringing birds in the Mongolian wilderness to conserving Sarus Cranes in Cambodia, and monitoring raptor migration in Batumi, Heather's journey promotes birds and their conservation. Her initiative is an art-science collaboration aimed at inspiring people from diverse backgrounds to engage with birds and their research and conservation.
For each project she visited, Heather created infographics that she designed herself. For BRC, she focused on analyzing the demographics of our volunteers over the years — a topic we have long wanted to explore but never managed to do. We were delighted when Heather proposed this idea! The infographic covers aspects of participant diversity, including gender and age distribution, new versus returning counters, country of residence, and country income levels of our volunteers from 2008 to 2023.
