Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! The count stations are publicly accessible. Follow the signs up the hill to the stations of Sakhalvasho and Shuamta. We welcome anyone who wants to spend all day there. But please, beware that we will most likely be very busy scanning for and counting raptors, so we might not be too social all the time. And please try to avoid standing between the counters unnecessarily, we need a clear line of communication.

  • We have a figure presenting the migration phenology for many of our species in our British Birds article. In general, the same article describes an ‘average’ season of raptor migration in Batumi and can serve as a great guide to plan your trip. If you want an idea of the day-to-day dynamics, go through our daily count results.

  • BRC does not offer taxi or shuttle services towards the count sites. We recommend installing the Bolt App (or Maxim if you have a Georgian SIM) on your phone to arrange a taxi. It is recommended to take a taxi to here and then continue climbing the hill on foot following the signs.
